When we go to class, the victors (my team) finally got our king sized kit-kats! yum. Since classes were short today, we just finished the film from yesterday. Today, the survivors got into detail of the aftermath of the bomb in Hiroshima. There were so many things that amazed and let me in shock. One thing that people didn't know not to do, but did it anyway since they were so parched, was drink the black rain that fell from the sky. The rain was black because of the smoke and ashes that the bomb carried with it when it was a mushroom cloud. This rain was highly radioactive, and when the people drank it, they would get radioactive poisoning. One woman recalled her account and said when doctors tried to get a sample of her husbands blood to study (he drank the rain), the place where the doctors inserted the needle wouldn't stop bleeding. He then became covered in purple patches, and he died soon after. Radioactive poisoning also left people very ill and their hair kept falling out in tufts. The same woman that became a widow, also lost her children in the rubble. She was enjoying a picture-perfect breakfast with her family- children, husband, and her- when the bomb struck. When they awoke, there was fire, smoke, bodies, and hell all around... not a building was in-tact. One of her children was stuck under the rubble and the mom couldn't get her out. The fire kept creeping closer and her child was screaming out in pain and terror, not wanting her mother to abandon her. The woman had said something like, "I do not have the courage to stay here and burn with you". All the details that were described in this video really left their mark on me... and I am so glad that there hasn't been another atomic bomb used in wars since then, and I hope there isn't one that is going to be used in years to come.
