Today I was late to class.... yikes!! Sorry about that Ms. Murphy!!! Anyways, I didn't miss much, just a worksheet which I later finished. The worksheet had us find evidence that supports the "Hiroshima as Victimization", or information that proves that America was wrong to drop the bomb. In my Atomic Bomb Document packet, I found vivid and gory evidence. One thing that I found was, "All I can remember was a pale lightening flash for two or three seconds. Then I collapsed... It was awful, awful. The smoke was coming in from somewhere above the debris. Sandy dust was flying around".
After this, we watched a documentary/video for the rest of the hour. This film interviewed WW2 veterans and survivors of the bomb and they recalled their accounts. One thing I thought was interesting was that one of the Japanese soldiers survived solely because some random guy came to him in the middle of the night. The man wanted the soldier to help his daughter because she had a heat stroke. So the apparently drunk soldier (quick question, why was he drunk??) went and rode on the back of the man's bike to the daughter. Instead of dying instantly in the explosion because of how close his prior location was, the soldier's new location with the daughter was farther than away... but that didn't mean he didn't feel the effects of it. Even with being so far away, he was flung across the room and the blinding 'white light' left a strong burning sensation wherever skin was exposed to the light. Another thing I thought was awesome was that he is one of the only few people that saw the mushroom and survived. One other thing I thought was terribly frightening was that when the bomb went off, people were either turned to carbon within seconds or vaporized because of the bomb's sheer force.
