Even though we did not officially have class today, I still learned and researched about the battle of Normandy aka D-Day aka Operation Overlord. D-Day was on June 6, 1944 and the invasion in Normandy lasted until August 1944. There were many deceptions coming from the Allies intended for Germany so that the Germans wouldn't think the invasion would be in Normandy; so that they would think the main invasion target was Pas-de-Calais. Other deceptions were fake equipment, a fake army, double agents, and illicit radio transmissions. Something I found interesting was that the invasion was originally supposed to be a day earlier- June 5th- but was delayed because of bad weather. Either way, the Allies didn't let the delay or German resistance stop them from obtaining their victory. Another thing I found interesting was that on June 11, 1944, the U.S. had more than 50,000 vehicles and about 100,000 tons of equipment on the beaches of Normandy. This reminded me that during WW2, the US/Arsenal of Democracy was in full-time war-time production, which helped them get out of the slumber of the Great Depression. The large amount of equipment and vehicles shows how bountiful the US's resources were because of war-time production.
